Corn Dryer

Corn dryer come in many shapes and sizes, most being developed in the USA for farm use and therefore not really suitable for industrial application as general used in Indonesia. Farm use means the drier is just used once a year during corn harvest, so reliability of parts is not a concern, nor is the environmental aspect. Whereas dryer in Indonesia are used at least 4 to 6 month a year, dust and bee-wings are a big concern.
PT KALIBER MITRA SAKTI follows the European design of driers, with counter-cross flow design of the drier, which proven the most energy efficient drying system for grains!

Capacity are standard from 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 t/h based on a moisture reduction of 5%, with a moisture reduction of 10% the capacity will be reduced by 40-50%. Our standard design has on top a reserve section, then several heating sections, followed by a tempering section, again heating sections and last a cooling section. This provides optimum drying operation.
Dryer control is by temperature control which is very accurate and temperature of the corn is directly related to the moisture content of the corn. Moisture sensors are still not very accurate (deviation 1 to 2% moisture) expensive, and dependent upon corn particle size, fines etc.

Since diesel is the most easy fuel for controlling the dryer, we still provide that as first option. Since the caloric value of diesel is very constant the dryer control and therefore the corn moisture is very easy to control.
As option we can provide a hot air furnace, fuelled by biomass or coal. This will increase the price of the dryer significantly, cost of which will take a long time to recover! Another option will be a coal (biomass) gasifier, there product of which is gas which again is very easy to control the dryer operation (as is any source of gas for that case!).  Gasifiers have some environmental consequences however.

Ricehulls are very cheap and a good source for fuel, very common in connection with dryers for paddy. Which make sense because paddy driers usually have low capacity and low operating temperature, in connection with ricemilling is also ready available. With a corndryer it needs more careful calculation as a corndryer usual has a much bigger capacity and temperature which is two to three times higher than paddy drying. Therefore the amount of ricehulls is much much bigger, so consideration of availability, storage and transportation expenses is really important.
